Pakistan Orders Online Probe, Limits Govt Vehicle Buys to EVs/Hybrids, Signs Digital Payments MoU

Overview

  • The Lahore High Court issued a written order directing the DG NCCIA and the PTA to identify individuals behind anti-judiciary propaganda on social media and to submit reports at the next hearing on 15 January.
  • Punjab formally banned the purchase of petrol and diesel vehicles for government departments, allowing only electric or hybrid vehicles, with field-duty exemptions and an Electric Vehicle Policy 2026 to follow.
  • Punjab also tied new petrol station NOCs to the installation of EV charging units, approving 170 new sites contingent on charging infrastructure to promote cleaner energy.
  • At the Prime Minister House, Pakistan signed an MoU with World Liberty Financial to cooperate on secure digital payments, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif present and the company’s CEO expressing confidence in Pakistan’s digital finance potential.
  • ISP Nayatel warned of scheduled repairs on a major submarine cable on 15 January from around 2:00 p.m. for approximately eight hours, cautioning users about possible nationwide slow speeds or service disruption, while CTD forces in Dera Ismail Khan reported killing three wanted militants in an intelligence-based raid.
