Overview

  • At least 657 people have died and nearly 1,000 have been injured in Pakistan’s monsoon flooding since late June, officials reported on August 18.
  • Buner district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains the hardest hit with over 200 fatalities and around 150 people still missing in Buner and Shangla.
  • Rescue and relief operations, halted by fresh rain earlier in the day, have resumed with five army helicopters, de-watering pumps and emergency supplies deployed.
  • The provincial government allocated PKR 1.5 billion for relief and delivered food, medicine, blankets and tents to flood-affected communities.
  • The National Disaster Management Authority has warned that heavy rain between August 21 and September 10 could trigger additional flash floods and cloudbursts.
