Overview
- The Election Commission of Pakistan suspended 32 members of the National Assembly, nine senators, and 118 provincial lawmakers across Punjab (50), Sindh (33), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (28) and Balochistan (7).
- National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq directed suspended members to leave the House and said their attendance would not be recorded.
- Under Section 137 of the Elections Act, members must submit annual statements for themselves, spouses and dependents by December 31; after flagging 446 non-filers, the ECP set a January 15 compliance window before acting.
- Those named include Federal Minister Musadik Malik, MQM-P’s Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, BNP’s Sardar Akhtar Mengal, PPP’s Ali Musa Gilani and Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, PML-N’s Saira Afzal Tarar, and Sindh Speaker Awais Qadir Shah.
- Suspended lawmakers are barred from attending sessions or participating in legislative business, including voting, until they file the required statements.
