Pakistan-Born Goa Resident Granted Indian Citizenship Under CAA

  • Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant handed Brenden Valentine Crasto his citizenship certificate at Mantralaya in Porvorim in the presence of senior officials.
  • Crasto has lived in Anjuna since December 2, 2006, and married Indian citizen Merilyn Fernandes in 2014.
  • Officials said the application was processed under the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024, with the grant made under the 2019 law for specified non-Muslim migrants who arrived before December 31, 2014.
  • This is the third CAA-based citizenship issued in Goa, following earlier approvals reported in Margao, including the 2024 case of Joseph Francis Pereira.
  • Sawant noted that one more application under the CAA is currently pending in the state.
