Pakistan Arrests Four in Islamabad Courthouse Bombing, Says TTP Cell Was Directed From Afghanistan

Officials say an Afghanistan-based TTP command directed the plot, a claim Kabul rejects.

Overview

  • Intelligence Bureau and Counter-Terrorism Department teams detained four alleged members of a TTP/Fitna al-Khawarij cell tied to the Nov. 11 suicide blast outside the Judicial Complex in G-11.
  • Sajidullah, known as Sheena and identified as the handler, allegedly confessed that commander Saeed-ur-Rehman, alias Dadullah, directed the operation via Telegram.
  • Investigators say the bomber was Usman, alias Qari, from Achin in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, and that a suicide vest was sourced from Peshawar before the attack.
  • Safe City/CCTV tracking led police to a motorcycle rider who dropped the bomber near the courts for a Rs200 fare as authorities mapped the bomber’s movements.
  • Police reported sweeping searches across Islamabad and Rawalpindi, checking more than a thousand properties and detaining 56 Afghan nationals for illegal residency as investigations continue and further arrests are anticipated.
