Pakistan and UAE to Launch Pre-Immigration Clearance, Starting With Karachi Pilot

Officials from both countries plan to sign a pact to speed arrivals by shifting checks upstream.

Overview

  • Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and UAE Customs and Port Security chief Ahmed bin Lahej Al Falasi agreed to implement the system and to sign a formal pact.
  • The program will start with a pilot at Karachi, with expansion to other Pakistani cities planned after a successful trial.
  • Under the arrangement, travelers will complete immigration in Pakistan and on arrival in the UAE will be able to exit the airport without standard entry processing.
  • Authorities are finalizing technical and administrative details, and the visiting UAE delegation pledged full cooperation.
  • The initiative follows reports of earlier visa processing hurdles for some Pakistani travelers and aligns with UAE facilitation measures such as five-year visas.
