Paisley Dad to Lead Edinburgh Shine Night Walk After Beating Hodgkin Lymphoma

He will sound the start horn to help raise research funds, offering a public thank you to the NHS and to his wife whose push for tests led to his diagnosis.

Overview

  • Ian Milton, 35, first put a persistent pre-Christmas cough down to a cold or Covid before sudden weight loss and failed antibiotics led his wife Stacey to urge a return to the GP.
  • Tests confirmed Hodgkin lymphoma on March 30, and doctors initially kept him in hospital on a drip for 10 days.
  • He completed 20 rounds of chemotherapy over about five months, finishing in July, and he tried to stay positive and present for his children during treatment.
  • Recent scans show no evidence of disease, though he continues with regular check-ups.
  • As guest of honour on September 27 in Edinburgh, he will start Cancer Research UK’s 10k Shine Night Walk at The Mound, with the charity noting events like this fund work that has helped double UK cancer survival in 50 years and highlighting that around 34,600 people are diagnosed annually in Scotland.
