PAE Files $1.2 Billion RIGI Request to Boost Output at Cerro Dragón

Seeking RIGI certainty to fund polymer-based tertiary recovery, the project now awaits government review under Argentina’s special investment regime.

Overview

  • Pan American Energy formally applied to join the RIGI and presented the Cerro Dragón program at the OECD in Paris on Thursday, laying out technical, commercial and partner details.
  • The plan calls for 22 polymer injection plants, 100 new producer and injector wells, interventions on about 600 existing wells, and new surface facilities to enable polymer-based tertiary recovery.
  • PAE estimates the work could add about 46 million barrels of oil and 30 BCF of gas in incremental production, reach a peak of more than 16,600 barrels of oil equivalent per day, and export roughly 18 million barrels.
  • PAE has signed a strategic supply deal with French polymer maker SNF to provide injection plants and polymers, and the company says tertiary polymer injection can raise recovery by up to about 5 percentage points in mature fields.
  • If RIGI approval is granted, the project would aim to extend Cerro Dragón’s life, boost provincial royalties and local jobs, and strengthen suppliers in Chubut while its economic and operational viability depends on the regime’s final terms and project execution.
