Ryan Barba, a newcomer to the staff, will perform many of the functions of a traditional bench coach as the major league field coordinator.
Victor Rodriguez, who spent the previous six seasons as assistant hitting coach for the Cleveland Guardians, has been appointed as the new hitting coach.
Brian Esposito will serve as the catching coach and game strategy assistant.
Mike McCoy, a former minor league manager and San Diego native, will serve as one of two assistant hitting coaches.
