Paddy Hill, Member of Wrongly Convicted Birmingham Six, Dies at 80

Hill, who spent 17 years in prison before his conviction was overturned, dedicated his life to supporting others facing miscarriages of justice.

  • Paddy Hill, one of the Birmingham Six, has died peacefully at home at the age of 80, according to the Miscarriages of Justice Organisation (MOJO).
  • The Birmingham Six were wrongly convicted of the 1974 IRA pub bombings in Birmingham, which killed 21 people and injured many others.
  • Hill and the other five men spent 17 years in prison before their convictions were overturned in 1991 due to a lack of evidence and allegations of police misconduct.
  • After his release, Hill founded the Glasgow-based MOJO in 2001 to support others who had been wrongfully imprisoned.
  • Only three members of the Birmingham Six—Gerry Hunter, John Walker, and Billy Power—are still alive, with two others having passed away in 2006 and 2023.
