Packers Interviewing Candidates for Defensive Coordinator Position
Former Chargers Head Coach Brandon Staley and Bills Linebackers Coach Bobby Babich Among Potential Replacements for Joe Barry
- Brandon Staley, former Los Angeles Chargers head coach, is set to interview for the Green Bay Packers' defensive coordinator position. Staley was fired from the Chargers after a disappointing season, but had previously shown promise as the Los Angeles Rams' defensive coordinator in 2020.
- Bobby Babich, Buffalo Bills linebackers coach, is also being considered for the Packers' defensive coordinator position. Babich has been with the Bills since 2017 and has helped the team become one of the best scoring defenses in the NFL.
- Joe Barry, the recently fired defensive coordinator for the Packers, is reportedly interviewing for defensive coordinator positions with the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles. Barry's three-year tenure with the Packers was marked by a struggling defense, particularly against the rush.
- The Packers' defense had a late-season turnaround in 2023, helping the team reach the postseason. However, their overall performance was inconsistent, ranking 17th in yards allowed and 10th in points allowed.
- Staley is also reportedly set to meet with the Miami Dolphins for a defensive coordinator position and has drawn interest from the Los Angeles Rams to replace Raheem Morris.
