Pacific Rim Shaken by Series of Quakes as Peru Event Upgraded to M6.2

Overview

• EMSC revised the offshore northern Peru earthquake to magnitude 6.2 at 02:51 UTC, locating the epicenter 46 kilometers west of Chimbote at a depth of 66 kilometers.
• An earlier EMSC notice placed the Peru quake at magnitude 6.0, and no immediate reports of damage were received.
• Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau reported a magnitude 7.0 quake 32.3 kilometers east of Yilan with a focal depth of 72.8 kilometers and no reports of casualties or destruction.
• The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk seismostation recorded a magnitude 5.2 quake near the northern Kurils, 203 kilometers east of Severo-Kurilsk on Paramushir, at a depth of 75 kilometers.
• The Kurils tremor was felt at about two points in Severo-Kurilsk, and no tsunami alert was issued.
