Pacers CEO Rick Fuson to Retire, Mel Raines Named Successor
Raines, Former Assistant to Vice President Cheney, Joins Select Group of Female NBA Executives
- Rick Fuson, CEO of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, has announced his retirement after a 40-year career with the organization.
- Mel Raines, current president and COO of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, will take over as CEO in June.
- Fuson has been instrumental in shaping downtown Indianapolis, directing the construction of Gainbridge Fieldhouse and helping the city host major events including the 2002 FIBA World Basketball Championships, 2004 FINA World Swimming Championships, and the 2012 Super Bowl.
- Raines, a South Bend, Indiana native, has worked with the Pacers since 2015 and has held numerous positions in Republican politics, including assistant to Vice President Dick Cheney.
- Raines joins a select group of women who are executives for NBA teams, including Jeanie Buss (Los Angeles Lakers), Lara Price (Philadelphia 76ers), Gillian Zucker (L.A. Clippers), Cynt Marshall (Dallas Mavericks), and Melissa Proctor (Atlanta Hawks).
