Oyster Recall Issued in Three Canadian Provinces Over Norovirus Concerns
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled oysters from Taylor Shellfish Canada following reports of illnesses linked to norovirus contamination.
- The recall affects Fanny Bay, Sunseeker, and Cloudy Bay oysters distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario under the Taylor Shellfish Canada brand.
- Most of the affected oysters were harvested and processed in early December, with some dating back to November 27.
- The BC Centre for Disease Control reported 64 cases of gastrointestinal illness linked to raw oysters between November 1 and December 18.
- Norovirus symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, and stomach cramps, and while most recover within days, severe cases may require medical intervention.
- Consumers are advised to discard or return the recalled oysters and seek medical attention if symptoms develop.
