Overview
- Bengaluru Traffic Police confirmed on August 7 that the R T Nagar resident paid the full Rs 18,500 for 34 outstanding traffic violations tied to scooter KA 04 JZ 2087.
- The scooter drew scrutiny after Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar rode it through the newly built Hebbal flyover loop on August 5 for a public inspection.
- Recorded offences included riding without a helmet, speaking on a mobile phone, signal jumping and entering restricted zones.
- Despite wearing half-helmets during the inspection, Shivakumar and his pillion rider were not fined as police are currently not enforcing penalties for that violation.
- The episode has reignited debate over equal application of traffic laws and the optics of political photo-op tours ahead of the flyover’s official opening on August 15.
