Overnight Pacific Beach Checkpoint Nets Nine Suspected DUI Arrests

The grant-funded operation signals an ongoing SDPD traffic-safety campaign with more checkpoints planned.

Overview

The checkpoint ran from 10 p.m. Thursday to 2:30 a.m. Friday in the 2400 block of Grand Avenue in Pacific Beach.
Officers from the SDPD Traffic Division worked alongside the San Diego County Sheriff's Office and UC San Diego Police Department.
Of 944 vehicles that passed through, 589 were screened and 22 drivers were evaluated, according to police.
Authorities reported one additional citation or arrest for an unlicensed or suspended driver, and 10 vehicles were impounded.
The effort was funded by a California Office of Traffic Safety grant through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and SDPD said more checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols are planned.
