Overnight Fires Contained in Mumbai as Two Suffer Smoke Inhalation

Officials are probing possible electrical faults after separate blazes hit Goregaon, Crawford Market and a Thane auto unit.

Overview

  • In Goregaon, the fire in a second-floor flat at Atul CHS was reported at 3:53 am and extinguished by 4:15 am, with residents Rameela Shah, 65, and Krunal Shah, 40, hospitalized for smoke inhalation and reported stable at Kokilaben Hospital.
  • At South Mumbai’s Crawford Market, a Level-I blaze reported at 2:13 am was confined to a 15-by-50-foot ground-floor area and was put out by about 4:00–4:30 am with no injuries.
  • Damage at Crawford Market included electric wiring and installations, a window AC, an LED TV, a ceiling fan, a CCTV camera, wooden furniture, and stock such as pet food and plastic sheets.
  • Investigations are underway across the incidents, with an officer’s preliminary assessment suggesting a short circuit as a likely cause in at least one case.
  • In Thane’s Shilphata area, a fire at MS Auto Company was reported around 8:20 pm Tuesday and drew a multi-vehicle response, and officials reported no injuries.
