Overnight Firefighting Continues at South Shields’ Ocean Beach Pleasure Park

The cause remains unconfirmed, fueling concern given a suspected arson at a nearby fish and chip shop last month.

Overview

  • Emergency services were alerted at around 7pm on December 26 to a large blaze at the seafront attraction.
  • Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue reported crews working through the night, with the operation ongoing more than five hours after it began.
  • At the height of the incident, six fire engines and specialist appliances were deployed, and residents were urged to avoid the area and keep doors and windows closed.
  • The A183 Sea Road was partially blocked in both directions due to fire service activity at the scene.
  • Videos showed flames and heavy smoke coming through a building roof as police were contacted and the cause remained under investigation.
