Overnight Dallas Apartment Fire Injures Firefighter, Displaces Two

Most damaged units were vacant, limiting displacement.

Overview

  • Dallas Fire-Rescue responded around 12:30 a.m. to a structure fire at 9873 Brockbank Drive and encountered heavy flames in a two-story building.
  • During the operation, a firefighter fell from a second-floor balcony and issued a mayday as a second-alarm response was dispatched per procedure.
  • The mayday was canceled after the firefighter was found just outside the building, and he was treated for minor, non-life-threatening injuries and later released from the hospital.
  • Firefighters declared the blaze extinguished at 2:26 a.m., and four apartments were damaged, three of which were vacant.
  • Two tenants from the occupied unit were re-housed on-site by management, and officials say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
