Overhead-Line Fault Halts BerlinHamburg Direct Trains This Morning

From 24 September, planned Anhalter Bahn upgrades will reroute services through mid-December, adding up to an hour on trips to Berlin.

Overview

  • Deutsche Bahn suspended direct ICE services between Berlin and Hamburg after a defective overhead line near Uelzen, advising travelers to route via Hannover.
  • Diversions are causing delays of up to about 50 minutes, with some services canceled and ICE stops in Celle, Uelzen and Lüneburg omitted.
  • DB indicated repairs could be completed by the afternoon, while regional operator Metronom reported bus replacements between Bad Bevensen and Uelzen and restrictions into midday.
  • Passengers with train-specific tickets may use alternative connections or travel on a later day, with DB urging checks of live timetables in its apps.
  • Separately from 24 September, DB InfraGO will close the Berlin–Halle/Leipzig corridor for major works, sending long-distance trains via Dessau, extending journeys by up to 60 minutes and replacing several regional lines with buses.
