Overview

• The Vacanze Sicure initiative by Polizia Stradale, Assogomma and Federpneus inspected about 10,000 vehicles across six regions between May and June 2025.
• More than 25% of inspected cars were non-compliant due to expired inspections, general neglect and critical tire issues.
• Inspections found 10% of vehicles with bald tires, 5% with visible damage and 5.63% mixing non-homogeneous tires on the same axle against regulations.
• Seasonal misuse was widespread, with 54% of cars still fitted with winter tires after seasonal ordinances had ended.
• Non-compliance rose to one in three for cars over 10 years old, prompting calls for targeted incentives to support upkeep of Italy’s aging fleet.
