Over 80 Migrants Feared Dead in Mediterranean Tragedies

Two separate incidents off Turkey's coast and between Libya and Italy claim the lives of migrants, including children, as they sought refuge in Europe.

  • Another 60 people died from dehydration and hunger after their boat from Libya to Italy broke down and drifted at sea for over a week.
  • Survivors from the Libya to Italy journey included individuals from Mali, Senegal, and Gambia.
  • Since the start of the year, at least 226 migrants have died on the central Mediterranean route, with over 31,000 irregular migrants reaching the EU.
