Over 60 migrants feared dead after boat from Senegal drifts for weeks before rescue off Cape Verde

A boat carrying over 100 migrants departed Senegal in early July and drifted for weeks before being rescued off Cape Verde.
survivors were rescued but at least 7 people were found dead and around 56 are still missing and presumed dead.
The dangerous Atlantic route from West Africa to the Canary Islands has claimed nearly 1,000 migrant lives at sea so far in 2023.
Survivors reported leaving Senegal on July 10 and families raised concerns after not hearing from loved ones for ten days.
Authorities are working to repatriate survivors while investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the doomed voyage.
