Over $3.2 Million in Federal Grants Awarded to Ohio and Louisiana for Domestic Violence Initiatives in Fiscal Year 2023

Grants Aim to Enhance Community Responses and Support Services, Prioritizing Access to Justice for Survivors, Accountability for Perpetrators, and Public Awareness Campaigns on Domestic Violence Prevention.

  • The U.S. Department of Justice has announced that over $3.2 million in federal grants have been awarded to Ohio and Louisiana as part of initiatives in fiscal year 2023 to combat domestic violence.
  • The grants will support services across historically marginalized communities, underserved areas, educational institutions, rural areas, culturally specific communities, and Tribal nations, with a priority on increasing justice access, bolstering survivor safety, perpetrator accountability, and professional training.
  • In Ohio, the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) awarded four grants totalling $1,904,320 for transitional housing assistance programs supporting victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking, along with a $350,000 grant to the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) of Northwest Ohio for educational programming.
  • Organizations across Ohio receiving these grants include the Family and Community Services of Ravenna, Concerned Citizens Against Violence Against Women in Marion, ONEEIGHTY, INC in Wooster, and the Battered Women’s Shelter of Summit and Medina Counties.
  • In Louisiana, the Eastern District was granted $949,920 by the OVW, which includes $450,000 for Vietnamese Initiatives In Economic Training to develop culturally relevant programs and $499,920 for Dillard University to develop and strengthen effective preventative education, security, and investigation strategies.
