Over 10 Crore Women Screened for Cervical Cancer Under National Health Mission

Trained health workers used low-cost VIA testing at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs with ASHA-led community outreach to ensure positive cases were referred for diagnosis.

Overview

  • As of July 20, 2025, 10.18 crore of 25.42 crore eligible women aged 30–65 have undergone screening under the initiative.
  • Women aged 30–65 receive Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid once every five years at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, sub-health centres and primary health centres.
  • Accredited Social Health Activists conduct risk assessments using Community-Based Assessment Checklist forms and mobilise at-risk women for screenings.
  • Cases testing positive on VIA are referred to higher-level centres for further diagnostic evaluation.
  • The Union Health Ministry’s NCD Screening Campaign ran from February 20 to March 31 across Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and other public facilities under NPCDCS, and states and Union Territories receive National Health Mission funds for targeted awareness activities.
