Ovechkin Day-to-Day, Skips Hershey as Capitals Target Two Preseason Appearances
Coach Spencer Carbery aims to give the Capitals’ captain two preseason tune-ups pending medical clearance from head trainer Jason Serbus.
Overview
- Carbery confirmed Ovechkin will not travel to Hershey for Thursday’s preseason game against the Flyers.
- The captain has skated on consecutive mornings in a no-contact jersey and has not rejoined full-team drills since leaving the first day of camp.
- Carbery said the goal is to play him in two exhibition games—one road and one home—before the Oct. 8 opener, subject to progress.
- Only four preseason dates remain: at the Devils on Sept. 28, at the Blue Jackets on Sept. 30, then home vs. the Bruins on Oct. 2 and the Blue Jackets on Oct. 4.
- Prospect Alexander Suzdalev also skated in a no-contact jersey during his recovery, and veteran Nic Dowd is away for personal reasons.
