• On May 18, players at Splinter City Disc Golf Course in Myrtle Beach witnessed a dead baby hammerhead shark crash down near the 11th hole.
• Jonathan Marlowe, who watched the incident, said the osprey carrying the shark dropped its catch after being attacked by a pair of crows.
• The coastal course lies roughly half a mile from the Atlantic, where a South Carolina Department of Natural Resources survey between 2013 and 2016 documented hammerhead populations.
• Marlowe initially left the shark where it fell to give the osprey a chance to reclaim it, and other golfers later spotted it via a Facebook update.
• Since opening in 2020, the wooded fairways have hosted visits from snakes, raccoons and alligators, but never before from a shark.
