Overview
- On July 30 an osprey dropped a fish onto a hydro line about 6 km south of Ashcroft, British Columbia, producing embers that ignited dry grass.
- Firefighters joined by BC Hydro crews and local ranchers applied roughly 4,800 gallons of water to contain the landscape fire and repair the damaged power lines.
- Ashcroft Fire Rescue’s August 4 Facebook release published photos of the charred fish and officially confirmed it as the ignition source.
- The brush fire has been fully put out with no injuries reported and electricity service restored to all customers.
- Wildlife authorities have now detained the osprey after it was playfully labeled the investigation’s “prime suspect.”
