Osiptel Orders One-Day Cancellations for Phone, Internet and Cable

Large providers must add 24/7 self-service in apps, issue immediate digital confirmation codes, refund unused prepaid days within two months

Overview

  • Osiptel approved the new Norma de las Condiciones de Uso on Monday, July 20, 2026, making it official that users can unilaterally cancel indefinite contracts without explaining their decision.
  • Operators must make a requested cancellation effective within one business day or on a user-selected date up to one month ahead.
  • If a user starts the process in a web portal or mobile app the company cannot redirect them to phone calls or offices and must complete the full cancellation in that same interface with an automated confirmation code.
  • Companies with more than 500,000 subscribers are required to provide 24/7 digital self-service tools in apps and websites so customers can manage cancellations any time.
  • The rule forces operators to refund unused prepaid days automatically and to execute reimbursements within a maximum of two months while Osiptel offers FonoAyuda 1844 and the 'Osiptel Te Ayuda' platform for complaints and queries.
