Overview
- Two cubs rescued on February 26 from Dissoi Reserve Forest in Jorhat were moved to Dehing Patkai National Park in a soft-release completed on August 17.
- A local youth reported the abandoned cubs, which were handed to the Na-Kachari Beat Office before transfer to the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation in Kaziranga.
- At CWRC, veterinarians treated mild dehydration and reared the cubs in a small-mammal nursery on a canine milk replacer under the supervision of Dr Bhaskar Choudhury.
- Rehabilitation followed CBRC protocols, and site surveys favored Dehing Patkai over Dissoi due to richer habitat, lower human disturbance, and supportive local communities.
- The Office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden, Assam, granted release approval on June 4, enabling the CWRC team to carry out the translocation with Assam Forest Department, IFAW, and WTI.
