Overview

  • The Orioles traded right-handed reliever Bryan Baker to the Tampa Bay Rays on July 10 in exchange for the Rays’ No. 37 overall pick in the upcoming draft.
  • Baker posted a 3.52 ERA with two saves and 10 holds over 42 relief appearances for Baltimore this season.
  • The deal raises Baltimore’s first-round selections to four (Nos. 19, 30, 31 and 37) and expands its bonus pool to a record $19.1 million.
  • In a corresponding move, the Orioles selected catcher David Bañuelos’ contract from Triple-A Norfolk.
  • GM Mike Elias said draft timing drove the decision and suggested the trade could foreshadow additional roster moves before the July 31 deadline.
