Overview

  • Orioles placed former All-Star Cedric Mullins on the 10-day injured list retroactive to May 29 after he suffered a right hamstring strain that will sideline him until at least June 8.
  • To replace Mullins on the active roster, Baltimore re-signed switch-hitter Cooper Hummel following an administrative designation for assignment, adding a versatile veteran capable of playing outfield and catcher.
  • Opening-day outfielders Mullins, Colton Cowser and Tyler O’Neill are all on the injured list, forcing the club to deploy nontraditional options in center field.
  • Interim manager Tony Mansolino has rotated Mullins out of recent lineups during a stretch of day games and doubleheaders to manage his lower-body durability.
  • Cowser began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, collecting three doubles in his first game, and could rejoin the major league outfield soon.
