The hire reflects a push to revive a young core after a last-place 2025.

Overview

  • Team president Mike Elias called Albernaz the right person to lead the club back to the playoffs in a formal statement.
  • Albernaz, 42, comes from the Guardians as associate manager after serving as bench coach in 2024, previously coached catchers and the bullpen with the Giants, managed in the Rays’ system, and drew recent interest from the Marlins, White Sox and Nationals.
  • He takes over as a first-time major league skipper with managerial experience limited to the lower minors.
  • The Orioles went 75–87 in 2025 after firing Brandon Hyde in mid-May, with interim Tony Mansolino guiding the team to a 60–59 finish the rest of the way.
