• Propstore will auction the authenticated hero lightsaber from The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in Los Angeles this September with an estimate up to £2.2 million.
• This marks the first public live auction of a verified film-used lightsaber from the original Star Wars trilogy.
• Propstore confirmed the prop’s provenance by comparing specific damage marks on its casing with production photos from the films.
• In August, the saber will be exhibited in London, Beverly Hills and New York to coincide with the films’ 45th anniversary.
• Originally built from a vintage British press camera handle and fitted with plastic grips, it was wielded on screen by David Prowse and stunt-performer Bob Anderson.
