Organizers Cancel Oct. 8 Wisconsin Gubernatorial Town Hall

The sponsors said scheduling conflicts ended the forum and the move trims the number of public opportunities for voters to question the nominees before the Nov. 3 election.

Overview

  • The Milwaukee County Intergovernmental Cooperation Council, TMJ4 and the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee announced the forum will not take place, an action those groups confirmed in a joint statement Tuesday.
  • Organizers said scheduling conflicts prevented the Oct. 8 event and expressed disappointment that the town-hall could not be staged as planned.
  • The canceled forum was to be a town-hall at UWM’s Zelazo Center featuring Democrat David Crowley and Republican Tom Tiffany and was designed to focus on local-government issues.
  • WISN-TV remains the only confirmed host of a debate between Crowley and Tiffany with a forum set for Oct. 21 at 7:00 p.m.
  • The loss of the Oct. 8 town-hall reduces voters’ direct access to the candidates and may limit public scrutiny of local-government plans in the run-up to the Nov. 3 general election.
