Oregon Man Charged with Federal Hate Crime for Defacing Synagogue

Adam Edward Braun, 34, of Eugene, has been charged with a federal hate crime for defacing Temple Beth Israel, a synagogue in Eugene, Oregon, with antisemitic graffiti and symbols.
The incidents occurred on four separate occasions between August 2023 and January 2024, culminating in an attempt to damage the synagogue's glass doors with a hammer on January 14, 2024.
Braun was arrested by the FBI on March 7, 2024, and made his first appearance in federal court, where he was ordered detained pending further proceedings.
Investigators found evidence at Braun's residence linking him to the attacks, including items and writings consistent with antisemitic beliefs.
The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon and the Civil Rights Division’s Criminal Section, highlighting the serious nature of hate crimes.
