Overview
- The pavilion was formally unveiled to the public by Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Wednesday after more than 17 years of full closure and a $114 million city-led reconstruction.
- The project rebuilt key historic elements such as roofs, columns, terracotta, tile and terrazzo while replacing mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems to improve long-term resiliency.
- Accessibility was expanded with a new landside ramp to the upper level and a curved brick-clad ramp linking the upper level to the lower beach plaza so visitors can move through the pavilion without barriers.
- City officials have awarded on-site food and retail operations to Unwind Hospitality Group; concession spaces are scheduled to open later this summer and the pavilion’s full restaurant is planned for 2027.
- The renovated complex includes a new nature center with Urban Park Rangers programming and live marine exhibits and officials say the reopening aims to give Bronx residents improved access to their borough’s only public beach.
