Overview
- Orca and Loopscale announced Wednesday that they have merged and will operate as Formation, led by Loopscale co-founder Luke Truitt as chief executive officer while keeping both protocols and the ORCA/xORCA token network in place.
- Formation plans to roll out unified origination, issuance, credit and distribution tools over the next 12 months and to introduce issuer-facing products that connect token issuance to trading, lending and vault services.
- Loopscale’s fixed-rate, order-book lending model will be combined with Orca’s deep on-chain trading liquidity so issuers can access credit and market making from day one; an order book matches specific loan terms rather than using a shared deposit pool.
- The merged business cites scale: Orca has processed hundreds of billions in trading volume and Loopscale reports more than $150 million in deposits and over $2 billion in loans facilitated, and it says it is working with partners such as Figure, Shinhan Asset Management, R3, Securitize and Superstate to expand distribution.
- Journalists and analysts warn that moving into energy and defense finance introduces new regulatory exposure and slower, non-crypto credit-recovery risks because physical projects and hardware cannot be liquidated as quickly as crypto collateral.
