Orange Storm Alert for Río Cuarto as Cold Front Triggers Wider Warnings

A fast-moving cold front will concentrate the worst conditions overnight, with instability expected to persist into the weekend.

  • Argentina’s national weather service placed Río Cuarto (Córdoba) under an orange alert from 21:00 on November 6 to 02:59 on November 7, forecasting 60–80 mm of rain, frequent lightning, hail and wind gusts above 90 km/h.
  • Córdoba faces yellow alerts for two windows: mountain winds of 50–70 km/h with gusts over 120 km/h from 15:00–20:59, then nighttime storms from 21:00–08:59 with 20–50 mm of rain and locally 60–80 mm.
  • La Rioja is under a yellow wind alert from 15:00–20:59, with cordillera winds of 50–70 km/h and gusts over 120 km/h, and northern-sector winds of 40–60 km/h with gusts over 70 km/h in adjacent areas.
  • Chubut and Río Negro have yellow thunderstorm alerts for the night period, with locally strong cells bringing frequent lightning, gusts up to 60 km/h, possible hail and 10–40 mm of rainfall with isolated higher totals.
  • Mendoza’s contingency office reports the front will bring storms, possible hail and high-mountain snow, with unstable conditions expected to continue through the weekend and calls for precautionary measures such as protecting vehicles.
