Spitzer said his office acted after 2022 state law tightened gang definitions, reserving the option to seek new injunctions under stricter criteria.

Overview

  • The motion targets 13 injunctions instituted since 2006 and covering 317 individuals in cities including Santa Ana, Anaheim and Fullerton.
  • The office filed the dissolution requests on June 24 in Orange County Superior Court before Judge David Hesseltine.
  • Years of internal audits led the DA’s team to remove at least 200 people from injunction lists prior to seeking full dissolution.
  • Civil rights groups hailed the decision as a hard-won victory against what they described as racially biased restrictions on Latino communities’ everyday activities.
  • Spitzer pledged continued support for the OC GRIP anti-gang program and emphasized that injunctions remain available if future safety evaluations under the updated law warrant them.
