Orange Alert as Western Disturbance Drenches Delhi-NCR

IMD links the rains to a moisture-fed western disturbance and expects clearing by Wednesday.

Overview

  • Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusts around 30–40 kmph hit Delhi-NCR early Tuesday, prompting Orange alerts for Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad, and Yellow warnings for Gurugram and Faridabad.
  • Delhi’s Safdarjung station recorded measurable overnight rainfall, with IMD nowcasts through the morning warning of additional showers and brief heavy spells in parts of the region.
  • The maximum temperature dipped to about 26.5°C, roughly 8 degrees below normal, as air quality improved to satisfactory or moderate levels across several locations, according to CPCB readings.
  • Fresh snowfall in higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand was reported, and forecasters say northwesterly winds will drive a further drop in night temperatures once the system weakens.
  • IMD flagged strong moisture inflow from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal and cautioned about isolated heavy to very heavy precipitation in northwest pockets, while Chandigarh logged its wettest October day in 21 years at 33.4 mm.
