Overview
- Security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in Orakzai on the night of October 7–8, engaging in a fierce firefight that left 19 militants dead, according to ISPR.
- Eleven personnel were killed in the operation, including Lt Col Junaid Tariq and Maj Tayyab Rahat, with the army naming nine other fallen soldiers.
- ISPR described the militants as “Indian-sponsored” and linked to the group it calls Fitna al Khwarij, its designation for TTP and allied militants.
- A sanitisation effort is underway in the Orakzai area to clear remaining threats, the military said.
- Funeral prayers for the two officers were held at Chaklala Garrison with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir in attendance, and a day later ISPR reported a separate Dera Ismail Khan IBO in which seven militants and Army Major Sibtain Haider were killed.
