Opposition Sets Wednesday Deputies Session to Curb DNUs and Challenge Milei Officials

The Senate-approved overhaul would end decrees’ silent validity by making them expire unless both chambers ratify them within 90 days.

Overview

  • Opposition blocs formally requested a special Chamber of Deputies session for Wednesday at noon to take up the DNU overhaul and a slate of oversight actions.
  • The reform replaces the current default validity with a requirement that both chambers explicitly approve each DNU by absolute majority within 90 days or the decree lapses.
  • Interpellations for Karina Milei and Health Minister Mario Lugones over alleged corruption at the National Disability Agency already have committee reports and could be scheduled.
  • Opposition leaders will press a censure motion to remove Chief of Cabinet Guillermo Francos over failure to implement the Emergency in Disability law.
  • Lawmakers will also push to oust José Luis Espert from the Budget and Finance Committee presidency, with proposals ranging from immediate removal to committee processing and a separate bid to expel him from Congress.
