Opposition Forms Governors’ Alliance to Challenge Milei in August 6 Congressional Session

A special August 6 session will seek to declare a pediatric health emergency, pass a university funding reform and formulate a unified strategy to counter President Milei’s looming vetoes. Governors of Córdoba, Santa Fe, Jujuy, Santa Cruz and Chubut launched the “Un grito federal” front to sway undecided deputies and defend provincial budget interests. Chief of Cabinet Guillermo Francos said the government expects to secure enough congressional support to uphold vetoes on pension increases, moratorium reinstatement and disability emergency measures. Security forces in Buenos Aires used pepper spray and rubber bullets against peacefully protesting pensioners, resulting in dozens of injuries and five detentions.
