Opposition Bloc Visits Kheroni, Plans Governor Plea After Deadly Clashes

Leaders allege administrative failure tied to a divide‑and‑rule strategy rooted in the VGR–PGR land dispute.

A cross‑party delegation led by Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia visited Kheroni on Tuesday to review the situation after recent violence.
Members met families of the deceased, Suraj Dey and Linouch Fangchu, and heard demands for justice, compensation and lasting relief.
The delegation will call on the Assam governor on Wednesday to submit a memorandum seeking an official inquiry, compensation and relief for affected residents.
Opposition parties alleged a political conspiracy and blamed the administration, the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and CEM Tuliram Ronghang for failures and corruption.
The unrest linked to VGR–PGR land encroachment disputes left two dead and over 180 injured, including 173 security personnel, after a December 22 escalation that led to police action and Army flag marches.
