Overview

• A woman went to a local hospital Thursday night reporting she was held against her will and sexually assaulted at a Renfrew motel.
• Officers later spotted a male suspect who fled on foot onto the Algonquin Trail, eluding an overnight search by specialized OPP units including canine, emergency response, and tactics and rescue teams.
• A shelter-in-place advisory began just after 9 p.m. as a precaution and was lifted around 1 a.m., with police saying no general public threat was believed.
• Police say the suspect is known to the victim and was reported to have a handgun; he is described as Black, 5'9" to 6' tall, with shaved sides, a goatee, and facial tattoos, last seen in a purple plaid jacket, black shorts, and a blue shirt.
• OPP warn the public not to approach, to call 911 with sightings, and to share doorbell or dashcam footage with Renfrew OPP at 1-888-310-1122 referencing incident E251166365 or with Crime Stoppers.
