Operation Jal Rahat-II Evacuates Over 2,500 Civilians in Manipur Floods

The relief campaign combines ground evacuations with air-dropped supplies to provide field medical support in cut-off regions.

Overview

  • Launched on May 31, the mission unites the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Air Force, NDRF and SDRF to aid flood-hit communities across Manipur, Assam, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Since inception, Army and Assam Rifles teams have evacuated nearly 2,500 people from Imphal East and West districts, prioritizing areas rendered inaccessible by breached embankments.
  • Major rescues include 778 individuals from Wangkhei and 750 patients from Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences hospital, with teams also extracting residents from Khitai Chingangbam Leikai, Laishram Leikai, Lamlong and Heinjang.
  • Field medical units have treated over 400 people at relief centres and troops have distributed 5,750 litres of potable water to displaced families.
  • Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopters have inserted NDRF teams and air-dropped relief consignments in Sikkim, evacuating 33 people including two US nationals from landslide-isolated regions.
