Overview
- Rio de Janeiro’s DRCPIM is leading a coordinated phase serving 132 search warrants in 11 states focused on online unlocking courses and resale points.
- The probe stems from the May arrest of Alan Gonçalves, accused of remotely unlocking devices and teaching methods to remove IMEIs from the national restriction registry.
- Targets include individuals who supplied stolen phones for reactivation and resale, with searches at shops, boxes, and kiosks that gave illicit devices an appearance of legitimacy.
- Authorities are also investigating attempts to access victims’ banking data to take loans, transfer funds, and open accounts using stolen devices.
- Since the operation began, more than 10,000 phones have been recovered, around 2,800 returned to owners, and over 700 suspects arrested, with today’s actions including a warrant served in Arapiraca, Alagoas.
