Operação Icarus Targets Major Comando Vermelho Supply Network

Overview

• The Polícia Civil of Rio led coordinated searches and arrest warrants on Tuesday across Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Alagoas to dismantle the network.
• Six people have been detained so far, including Laércio Isidoro do Nascimento Júnior, known as "Boss," who investigators say coordinated shipments, freights and payments for the group.
• Investigators allege the network used transport and logistics companies as corporate fronts and ran atypical financial flows to hide proceeds and move roughly R$70 million.
• Prosecutors and specialized police units linked the scheme to at least two large 2024 drug seizures in Guarulhos and Seropédica and are seizing phones, documents, vehicles and bank records for follow-up probes.
• The operation includes oversight from corregedorias and the Ministério Público and could strain the Comando Vermelho's supply to Rio communities while expanding inquiries into money laundering and possible police collusion.
