Overview
- Opera rolled out the update on July 23, adding an optional vertical tab strip and expanded Google Lens integration to the Opera One desktop browser.
- The vertical strip shows favicons and full tab titles so users can identify pages more easily, preserves Opera’s Tab Islands grouping, and collapses automatically on narrow screens.
- Google Lens is now embedded in the home/search bar so users can start an image search by uploading a file, dragging and dropping, pasting from the clipboard, or entering an image URL.
- Users can enable vertical tabs from Settings under Browser > Tabs, from the Easy Setup menu, or by right-clicking a tab to switch views, and they can choose full titles or an icon-only compact view.
- The change follows a wider move by Edge, Firefox and Chrome toward vertical tab UIs and signals growing competition to add built-in image-search and AI-style tools directly into browser interfaces.
